4 delicious ways to enjoy your coffee

4 delicious ways to enjoy your coffee

For many of us, mornings don’t start until we’ve had our cup (or quite often cups) of coffee, and queues can be found at any place where caffeine is promised. In honour of McDonald’s brand-new Iced Coffee Float with Coffee Jelly, we’ve rounded up a few of the ways people take their coffee around the world.

1. No-frills espresso
If you need a shot of caffeine that goes straight to the blood, the espresso is just what the doctor ordered. Traditionally drunk in the afternoons in Italy, the espresso takes less than half a minute to make and is the perfect fuss-free pick me up for slow days at the office. Just be sure to drink it while it still has its “crema” – that’s the emulsion of coffee oils on top – so the aromas of the coffee are still in the liquid when you down it. Some places even serve it with a slice of lemon to further bring out the flavours of the coffee!
2. Spiced for a kick
We’re not talking pumpkin spice, which in the Autumn months seems to be all the rage. Instead, we mean coffee that’s brewed with a variety of spices to give you a real kick in the mornings. In Morocco, coffee beans are ground with a blend of spices including sesame seeds, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper, creating a fragrant, exotic brew that warms up the body. Similar to this is the cafe de olla, a traditional type of coffee from Mexico that is brewed in earthen clay pots with cinnamon and unrefined cane sugar.
3. Rich and syrupy
Some people prefer sugar (in all its raw, processed or artificial varieties) in their coffee, but the true connoisseurs go for condensed milk. Spain’s cafe bon bon is just a shot of espresso with condensed milk, not unlike the local coffee our parents grew up drinking. In Vietnam, they either serve it iced, or whipped with egg yolk, butter, cheese, and more sugar, to really pack a punch! You end up with a fluffy, tasty coffee that will make any day instantly better.
4. Sweet and indulgent
More than anything, coffee is meant to be savoured and enjoyed – so move over whipped cream and cocoa powder, there’s a new player in town. McDonald’s new Iced Coffee Float with Coffee Jelly is refreshing in taste, texture and appearance, and promises to make you view coffee in a whole new light. Take your pick of black or milk coffee, topped with smooth and creamy soft-serve and chewy coffee jelly. It’s coffee with not just one delicious twist but two, eliminating the need to choose between coffee and dessert once and for all! Now available at McDonald’s island-wide.
